Tack Club

The Tack Club is a renovated adobe with western salon charm. A well-tuned baby grand piano sits next to an antique bar where lounge acts regularly practice and experimental music is composed. Before renovation, this place looked like it had been through a shoot out—adobe walls built around a 5th wheel trailer. The renovation was a huge pain, but the payoff has made it all worth while. It’s our favorite casita on the ranch and functions as our clubhouse when it’s not rented out by lodgers. Many of the windows and doors used are reclaimed materials, beams and flagstones recycled from regional salvage. It has wood floors, tile counters, beams, vigas, some exposed adobe interior walls and a huge west-facing portal.

The bedroom has a queen bed and ample drawer space. The large bathroom has a bathtub with a ‘telephone’ style wand for rinsing your hair, tile countertops and sinks. The open living/dining are features an rustic bar, hand-carved bar stools, game table, leather couch, and additional seating around antique Victrola and ice chest repurposed as side tables. The bar seats 4, separating the living room from the cooking area. The fully equipped kitchen has plenty of counter space, gas cooktop, oven, microwave, coffee maker and a full-size refrigerator.

“We stayed in this property for a week. The piano in the living area has been lovingly maintained and the casita is beautiful. There is also a heated floor in the bedroom and bathroom areas, it was so nice to have warm feet in a Santa Fe winter. The area is quiet and private. A couple of nights we heard coyotes howling way off in the distance. But the property is only about a 10-minute drive from groceries, pizza, gas, etc. in Eldorado… I would gladly stay at this property again, to enjoy the peaceful and beautiful surroundings.”

“Needing something of a sabbatical from the noise, stress, and busyness of life, I looked for a little rustic getaway; a place where I could get out of town, enjoy some solitude, as well as immerse myself in the unique and surreal beauty of the Southwest. When I spotted the Tack Club house on Spur Ranch, I was sold; and all the more after my stay there! I fell in love with the house the moment I walked in the front door, and had no trouble settling right in (take advantage of the bathtub and the baby-grande)…the scenery and views were nothing short of AWEsome. Every afternoon/evening I ventured out on a hike, exploring the many beautiful acres at my disposal and discovering novel places to perch and watch the sunsets (especially phenomenal in the area). I truly felt like I had found a little home away from home–I only wish I could have stayed longer 🙂 In other words, I highly recommend this spot anytime of year (I was here in the middle of winter), and hope you enjoy it as much as I did!”
